Dalton was using the leg press at the helicarrier gym. The woman seemed to be making an enormous effort to lift too much weight, pushing her body to the limits. She had been working at the different training facilities all afternoon, alternating between the training room, the gym and the shooting range, though that last one was more of a game. Dalton was one hell of a shooter and had to invent ways to complicate things for herself to keep if a challenge. She had started working for S.H.I.E.L.D. not too long ago. Anything that lasted less than two years wasn't long enough for her to compute in her mental timeline.
On happier times, she would have spent some time bonding with her co-workers, but after what had happened to her family, Dalton wasn't in a friendly stage of her life and would rather train herself to exhaustion and then pass out on her bed until the next day, or until she was assigned to a mission. That day had been particularly good, though. The extra training had managed to keep the dark thoughts out of her mind pretty well, the woman thought as she got off the press and dried her sweat with a towel. Like an addict, not returning to the people and places that would trigger the worst of her, the change of air that working for S.H.I.E.L.D. had meant for her had done the woman good. Most of her addictions and bad habits were under control and she didn't think of David, Mike and Gabe as often as she used to in the Army. Even working side to side with mutants didn't make her feel as insignificant as it used to. Maybe she was growing up.
None of that appeared into her conscious mind though, except for the idea that it hadn't been a horrible day after all. Then, she started considering the possibility of a shower rather than the mill she had been planning to use after the press. Her yellowish eyes fixed on the machine in front of her and Dalton spaced out looking at the treadmill as if she were catatonic. She had those episodes every once in a while.

Davyn wasn't sure about this, he never wanted any of this. But his father had to go and use him as a lab rat when he was just a kid. Hence this mess he was in. The young man was under the impression that SHIELD only wanted him in order to keep a closer watch on him. Perhaps figure out a way to just recreate the Demon Dog and use it to their desires. He didn't know for certain and that was a strong fear that he had.
While he hated the fact that he turned into the Demon Dog and had no control over it, he didn't want others to get their hands on it and use if for their own desires. So to say that Davyn was paranoid with being here a bit and keeping a lookout, you'd be right. That was just how he was since he 'joined'.
He had yet to learn any skills that SHIElD would most likely want him to learn in order to be a agent. Though Davyn had high hopes that they didn't want him for combat. After all, losing control could happen at any time. So all he was really doing was just wandering around the areas, hence how he ended up right here. His original intention was to keep going but when he spotted someone just staring at a treadmill, he raised his right eyebrow confused. Though quickly shook the expression away.
"Madam, are you alright?" Davyn asked from where he was standing, giving her plenty of space.

Right after thinking that it had been a not-so-sucky day, her subconscious mind made her think of all the things she had been trying so hard to repress and that's how Dalton ended up staring into nothingness, remembering the hand of her three year old in that Ziploc bag inside the box that had came through the mail a week after his disappearance.
Then someone talked and her brain registered it, but it was a couple of seconds until she was able to get out of that subspace and return to reality. She blinked once, confused. Acknowledging that wasn't her house or the Army barracks was easy. A moment later she remembered where she was and looked towards the voice that had addressed her as 'Madam' of all things.
"Call me Dalton." She said in the detached tone a male war veteran might have used and with the same tired look in her impossibly yellow eyes. A light tugging and the towel that had been around her shoulders was on her right hand. Then it hit her that with such an attitude, she'll never get to know anyone around there. Not that she was looking forward to bonding with people. She knew that only lead to pain, but at least getting to know something about her possible work mates would make her more efficient in the field.
"Do you have a name?" She asked still serious, but less defensively than before. Being treated like a lady always got the worst of Liz before she could even think. Her eyes scanned the guy up and down, trying to get an impression on him. Mutant or human? She made a bet with herself, a game she often played when meeting someone new.

Okay bad idea to call her that. Davyn thought in his head when Dalton spoke.
A lot of people seemed to have that tone to their voice along with look in their eyes. Oh well, it was just something that they all shared. Save for Davyn. He had no experience as a soldier or anything. The battle experience he had was out of control, he had no control over what the Demon Dog did and pretty much it was like a wild animal fighting. Using fangs and claws, only the problem was it was a huge wild animal.
"Sorry, my bad." Davyn apologized. "I'm Davyn."
He didn't know if Dalton had given her first or last name, but he did know she had given only one. So it was probably best to just give her his first name. He was bad at this, most likely due to him trying to keep a distance from others due to his problem.

"T's OK." She minimized the issue. It was true that she didn't like being called 'Madam' but people didn't call her that for long anyway... for a reason that depended on her mood each time.
Dalton winced at the name but tried to hide it. It was too similar to her ex's name 'David'. Well, technically, he was still her husband but she was trying to divorce him after all, not even sure why at that point, as it had been her who had messed up the relationship.
"Nice to meet you, D." She renamed him. "Looking for some entertaining?" She asked in a more friendly tone, signaling the bunch of machines with a small nod of her head. Tough guys wanting to get pumped, she could easily relate with. He didn't seem the type, but he had walked into the gym after all. Maybe he had just gotten started, she thought, the man did seem like he could have used a regular training routine according to her standards.

D? Well that certain had him by surprise. Perhaps she didn't know yet, though the files were most likely restricted unless he was stuck with a partner. Davyn didn't doubt that he'd eventually be assigned someone to put him on a leash at the rate his loosing control had been going. It was a bigger surprise to him that they hadn't put some sort of collar or device on to try and prevent it. Oh well.
"I'm just wandering about, trying to get used to this flying thing." Davyn replied. "I haven't been here long."
Davyn had more important things to do then to use the machines in the gym. After all, his body didn't produce blood correctly, so doing things like this would result him in needing more blood. The need for blood would end up triggering it and that was something he had to avoid. Though like always, it came out and caused a lot of damage.

Dalton observed his face for a reaction. No complaints? No rebuttal? Ok. No. Didn't look like the gym type at all, but maybe she could make a soldier of him out of boredom, of course.
"Scared of heights?" She asked with a half smile that wasn't entirely mocking, nor overly friendly either. Just small talk, she told herself, as if criticizing her own personality, the way her mother would have.
"Haven't been here long either." I think, Dalton added in her mind. Compared to the hectic, adrenaline filled life she had lead until her son was born, this was like a really long paid vacation she wasn't sure she wanted to take, but they had promised that they'd help her find her kid and maybe... maybe even make her a mutant. Granted, that part had been hinted only, but she had hopes and ambitions.

"No, just not used to being trapped in a metal tin can...." Davyn started but he silenced himself and sighed. "Sorry, that probably sounded stupid. I'm fine with the heights I just have...a different thing on my mind."
Moron, are you trying to get yourself found out? We don't need everyone on this rust bucket to know what insane thing you got stuck with ya. Davyn thought in his head in the form of a lecture.
"So....watch the news? I know that's a stupid question but I'm just trying to make a good converse." Davyn asked.
If Dalton did watch the news then he had to wonder. How much did she actually pay attention to it? And what did she believe about it? Hopefully she didn't know about the Demon Dog. Though...it was on the news often lately.

Dalton laughed, convinced it had been a joke. Then looked at him puzzled and rather out of place when it sounded like he was telling the truth. She didn't even understand what he meant by a different thing on his mind and frowned for a moment, trying to understand. She couldn't and let it go. "Like no conversational skills?" She joked, now sounding rather friendly for the first time. Her half-smile was back on.
One blond eyebrow rose as she looked at him quizzically. Definitely no conversational skills, she noted. "You're not doing a good job," She teased harmlessly again. "But, for the sake of conversation: No. I don't watch the news, yet I can already tell you what they're all about." She offered grimly.
"The crime rates are higher than ever, people are getting killed, robbed, mugged, murdered, kidnapped, tortured... they blame the mutants... there was a riot, a building caught on fire, there was some sort of natural disaster..." As she talked, her eyes were lost on the treadmill again, then she looked back up at him. "So, how many did I get right?" It seemed to be some sort of sick game to her.

"Had a feeling I was doing poorly. I normally tend to...stay quiet." Davyn answered. "Usually my mind is preoccupied with something than me making converse."
He had given a kind smile as he talked, seeing that she was joking. He really didn't think he had good conversational skills. As Dalton went on about not watching the news, relief had settled in. Thank goodness.
"I think you got most of that right." Davyn said, keeping his smile though it quickly started to fade away.

She gave him another puzzled look. "All the time?" Dalton sounded unconvinced. "That sounds like a lot of thinking... you definitely need a hobby, D." The woman joked. Look who's talking, she told herself.
Dalton smiled and blew a pair of imaginary pistols made with her hands, then holstered them. "So, what do you guys do up here to kill the time?" Se asked genuinely interested. After all she did need a hobby.

"It's a serious matter I have on my mind." Davyn replied.
It was a serious matter. After all, his body didn't produce blood as quickly as everyone else and that was tied into changing into the Demon Dog. He wanted to get rid of the Demon Dog as well as that other problem but, having just the problem would be better than having both of them.
"Afraid I don't know what there is to do up here. Like I said, I haven't been here all that long." Davyn explained.

"So do I." She said too serious to be kidding this time. "And forcing yourself to think hard only gets you a headache and a mental block, as far as I know. You got any luckier?" If there was a better way to come across the right ideas without setting your mind free, emptying it of the problem itself until the epiphany came, then she was more than eager to hear it.
"Then we better find something to do before I decide to give rope-less bungee jumping a try." Dalton ironized as she stood up, motioning to the door with a small nod. Maybe they'd find something interesting out there.
She started to walk down the corridor. "So are these guys for real? I mean, do they keep their promises?" She asked dead serious this time.

"Ignoring it is a hard thing, not wise if I do." Davyn said. "It's not a simple thing to be able to ignore in my case."
Seeing her motion to the door, Davyn followed. There was no harm in walking around and talking. After all, it was better than doing nothing. He was left speechless though when she suggested the rope less bungee jumping. That....wouldn't be good.
"Um...I....I don't really know." Davyn replied. "I...I hope they are...cause if they're lying then we're all in trouble..."
Davyn had muttered the last part to himself but there was a chance that Dalton heard him.

Dalton didn't inquiry any further and guessed 'mutant', as a part of that betting game she played with herself. Why else would he be concerned with something that required attention at all times if it wasn't to keep a potentially power in check? After all, David hadn't been too good at controlling his gift when she had first met him and him, too seemed to be worried all the time about hurting someone. A heavy sight escaped through her nose. If this guy reminded her of her ex so much, it wouldn't be a good idea to spend too much time with him. Where was the point of going away to start fresh and avoid a possible encounter with him if she was going to be constantly reminded of the things she'd left behind? "Whatever. It's your life." She just said, too worried about her own problems.
A deep frown made Dalton's face appear less friendly. Anything other than 'of course' was enough to make her feel suspicious and deceived. "Well they better be or they're gonna wish they were never born." She said less concerned about being heard than he was. The woman might have many flaws but she always kept her word... unless it was about marriage vows.
