Violet turned slightly as she was trying on a rather beautiful dark purple dress, one that stopped at her knees and was made on silk. It stopped slightly above the knees with a sweet heart neckline and two thin straps that went over her shoulders, being a little low cut but nothing quite provocative since she usually preferred in things of moderation compared to what her family was known for. It was the second dress she found that she liked and a strapless one but so far she much preferred the strapped one since it seemed to suit her quite well.
The only thing she didn't like though was that much of her back showed, the scars she had that were faint were quite noticeable with it. Shaking her head as she ignored this fact she decided it was worth the money, especially with some formal events which she lacked much formal clothing. This was more for casual formal but formal nonetheless, which was something she needed. Deciding to pick it she went back into the fitting room of the store she was in and changed out of the dress and hung it back up. Redressing she returned to her plain purple t-shirt and dark blue jeans along with some leather black boots which went up slightly towards her knees but stopped a few inches from them. Grabbing the two dresses that she had been trying on and the shoes she got to match Violet left the dressing room and returned to the section to hang up the strapless dress.
This day though was quite a rare one where she could just have some time to herself, not having to worry about school, work, or being a heroine for the Future Foundation. Though she loved them all there were times she did need to do things for herself and today happened to be a rare treat for it. She was, however, always at the ready upon call from her teammates and from work and would be certain to be quick or drop everything when it was the time but not today. That was why she made a rare trip to the mall for something other then essentials, like groceries or even a toothbrush. Besides a little trip away wouldn't hurt.
But as she came to the register she waited patiently for a few others ahead of her as she carefully held her items so they weren't damaged or ruined. But as she did look around slightly to pass the time Violet's gaze stopped suddenly when she noticed someone she never thought she'd come across in person, the well known White Queen of the Hellfire CLub at one point and now the X-men. It was none other then Emma Frost.

A mall wasn't a place one would ever expect to run across Emma Frost. She was too classy to buy in places where tacky things such as price tags were used. However, the mall was next to the hospital and that's where she had been until about two hours ago. The doctor who had run the tests for her annual check up had announced the MRI had found a lump in one of her lungs about a week earlier and she was required to go back to the hospital to undergo more tests. Hospitals always irritated Emma, but getting tested with the possibility that it came back positive for cancer made the White Queen completely freak out. Of course, no one would have noticed that she was scared. If anything, she looked irritated, angrier than she usually appeared when something happened to her and that would ring an alarm bell for anyone who knew her well enough to know her being in a mall was a bad sign in and on itself.
Emma didn't want to go back to the mansion right after the tests and felt she needed some time to calm down. Shopping didn't seem enough to calm her nerves. Neither did her favorite spa or the idea of planning a weekend trip somewhere. She just wandered off the building and then somehow found herself walking down the mall, looking at the items for sale there without really seeing them.
In an attempt to get her fears out of her head, the telepath decided to get into a store and remind herself why she didn't wear anything but exclusive brands and couture. She picked a clothes store randomly and walked in. There was no contempt in her paler than usual face when she looked at the racks full of dresses she wouldn't even try on, but she went through the motions of browsing anyway. Her mind seemed a hundred miles away and she couldn't have noticed her own sister if she were standing right in front of her.

As Violet kept looking upon her mother, least from her genetic DNA, she could see that Emma was rather angry looking or irritated. She could sense it really. Of course this likely was to be expected since Violet had heard her mother was easily angered and wasn't exactly the nicest woman you wanted to be around often. So it likely would be rare to catch her in a good mood. And the young woman figured she'd be lucky to ever meet her genetic mother in a good mood, more or less to actually ever see her in person. And it was her one time she came across Emma in such a large place, New York being one place you'd be lucky to see anyone you knew right off the bat but today it might as well be a small world when the two women were in the same place. And only Violet knew the truth between the two as of right now.
Should she approach her? Maybe, but from the face Emma made she wasn't quite sure that'd be a good idea nor that it'd exactly be easy to tell her who she was. Sighing, Violet turned her gaze away figuring now may not be the time, especially not when Emma seemed in a foul mood so this might have only made things worse. It might be better if she made an appointment to meet at the Jean Grey school and there at least she'd have a less chance of something going awry.
While her attention had been focused on Emma though Violet had missed the person just before her being a woman who really had no intention of buying the items she had in front of her. Before anyone might had noticed the woman, slightly older than Violet herself, slipped a revolver from her purse and aimed it at the cashiers, "Empty the register now. And don't waste any time, I got a itchy trigger finger." The woman demanded, the two women nodding as they quickly began opening the cash registers to comply. "You don't have to do that," Violet said as she heard the woman and seemed rather calm. "Mind your own business you little wench,"The woman snapped making Violet frown. "I think not." She said in response, still keeping a calm composure but stepped back as the revolver was aimed at her and the woman fired but by reflex Violet was lucky enough to deflect the bullet with her telekinesis and send it into the floor, causing several customers to scream and duck with shock.
SHock showed in the woman's face at first as she then snapped out of it and rushed at Violet who quickly stepped around her before setting her items on the counter. "So much for a day off." She sighed as the woman once again went to fire but this time Violet used her telekinesis to bring the gun to her, yanking it from the woman's hands and took it apart with her powers. "Now calm..."Before Violet could finish her sentence the woman let out an angry yell as she rushed her and Violet simply turned her form into her organic amethyst form, taking the rush as the woman slammed into her body and fell over with a groan and obviously not expecting the sudden change. "Well I did warn you to give it up." Violet said once more, watching the woman scramble away and had no doubt security was already on it's way.

Usually, Emma would have noticed right away that there was something off about that other woman. Having lived in the streets for a while herself, the blond had learned to read people quite well without even using her telepathy. That day, her mind was too busy pondering more important problems, so Emma's own behavior was odd, as she too was browsing without interest and didn't seem inclined to buy anything. The rest of her facial and body language was closer to irritation and contempt than the kind of anger that usually came with a robbery. In fact, any empath near her would probably be picking a certain worry, fear or despair along with the emotions she was showing physically. Knowing Jean Grey was back at the mansion, the Ice Queen saw no reason to be concealing her every feeling to the detail.
With all that in her plate, Emma only realized what was going on when she heard the other woman order the cashiers to empty the registers. Surprise washed over her face for a fraction of a second. Great. The one day I decide to mingle with the populace and I had to get the full experience, she thought bitterly. Emma had hoped to find some privacy in a huge crowd and now it was back to working overtime for free. However, before she could intervene, a girl with purple hair did. The curious woman that she was, Ms.Frost waited to see the situation unfurl before deciding to get involved. The girl seemed calm and in control of the situation, so she was either suicidal or had a good reason not to be afraid. If there was a need for her to intervene, she would, Emma decided.
So far, the justice seeker seemed to be handling the situation exceptionally well. A pang of pain echoed deep inside the White Queen as she thought of Esme. This young woman with purple hair vaguely reminded her of her favorite daughter... so to speak. Emma was impressed to see the bullet deflected and got interested in that mutant. It had to be a mutant. A psychic to be more precise.
That was plenty interesting. Especially since Ms.Frost had been sure she knew every telepath worth noting in the city. And anyone capable of deflecting bullets and disassembling a gun like the young mutant had just done was definitely worth noting. The impulse of poking through the other woman's mind died when Emma figured out she was psychic. There was no use in engaging her in a mental battle when there were other ways to get information without losing a valuable prospect due to an unnecessary confrontation. Still, Emma's icy blue eyes were fixed on the slender body that turned into something almost inhuman in a second. She knew that kind of mutation all too well and she bit her lip angrily.
How many other blood-related lab experiments on the loose did she have running around unnoticed? Because there was no doubt in Emma that at least a part of her DNA was in that girl's genetic code. The resentment towards the man who had taken her eggs when she was in a comma, flared up again as she looked at her relative with her arms crossed over her chest. It probably wasn't the girl's fault. Emma knew that much, but the one responsible wasn't available at the moment.
"That's an interesting gift-set." Emma observed, standing right in the path the robber had used to escape. She didn't want this other woman to follow and miss the opportunity to satisfy her curiosity when the mall's security could probably handle a common woman. "Didn't your mother teach you not to break the masquerade?" Emma added because all the other customers in the store were staring at Violet and she knew well just how quickly a sumptuous public display of mutant powers could turn into an angry mob, even if the mutant had just saved said crowd. "You're gonna get yourself hung in the Central Park one of these days."

With her task complete Violet returned to her normal self and glanced at the cashiers, "So how much for both?" She asked, unfazed by the confrontation she had just had with the woman. This had become a common thing these days for her, especially since she became part of the Future Foundation and took a much greater role in becoming a heroine. As one cashier quickly snapped out of the shock she had watched she quickly brought up the price and Violet paid it with her debit card for now, deciding she might as well be in a hurry rather then bring more attention to herself. Of course, if she kept being part of the Future FOundation it was likely to be expected, there wasn't much she could do to hide her appearance and identity, only her name behind a codename.
Turning though as she heard someone speaking towards her Violet found herself a bit surprised Emma was blocking her path, the same path the woman had gone. Not that she had planned to pursue the woman to begin with but it seemed the incident perked her mother's interest. Albeit there was an anger she sensed from Emma, making her wonder if the power she had caused an unfortunate anger towards her or just that who once again had someone with her DNA running around. Which yes Violet wasn't completely misinformed about some things, she had become aware her "creator" usually kept a log of people he had interest of and she recalled coming across a file where Emma had genetic daughters/clones known as the Stephen Coockoos around. Technically they would even be her half sisters to a degree, mostly because they shared the same mother but she never knew if those first daughters of Emma even had a father to begin with. Maybe that was one difference.
"Yes, I'd say it's quite different then some mutants I suppose." Violet said calmly as she reached over and took the bag containing her dress, which was carefully wrapped up and her shoes beside it. "And considering I'm part of the Future Foundation I can't exactly avoid publicity, and if an issue arrises I think I am more than capable of handling the situation Emma." She added in a matter-of-fact tone, making it clear Violet wasn't helpless and was quite aware of the consequences that could follow of being a mutant. Not like the Avengers and X-men were the best at trying to avoid that since they themselves had mutants on their teams, Emma being part of the latter team.
Though she couldn't help wondering why Emma just didn't explore her mind and discover the truth for herself, she was well known for it but she wondered if she just was worried for resistance. "Also my powers are telekinesis ma'am, you wouldn't get much resistance from me. And if you really just want to ask the question that's obviously on your mind your answer is yes, I am a daughter of your's by genetic DNA Mister Sinister had. How he obtained though is beyond me." Violet told her outright, deciding she might as well come out with it. "Besides hard for my mother to teach me anything when we're just meeting, wouldn't you agree?"

Emma recognized that quick shift from work mode to her normal self as something she, too was able to do that left other people in awe. Apparently, it took them a lot more time to recover from unsavory incidents and resume whatever it was they were doing. The coincidences were too many for it to be just that and it wasn't unprecedented to have someone playing with her DNA without her consent, Emma thought. Her defenses were up this time around. She had gotten really close to her clones, the Stepford Cuckoos, and ended up regretting preferring them over her other students. Had she remained completely objective, the death of Esme Stepford, her favorite, wouldn't have hurt so much... not that she would ever admit it, of course. She was a Frost and they were proud to a fault, and beyond. Maybe if her previous experience had been better, she would have taken pride in those similarities, like the way they stood and their looks, but right now, it was a slap across her face. And she didn't know it would get worse! That being the main reason Emma chose to face the girl now that she had come across her, for she had no intention of looking for her later and get all chatty and familiar. If she had the fortune or misfortune of running into her half-clone or whatever that day, it must have been for a reason and it was a take-it-or-leave-it opportunity, the way she saw it, at least. There was no way she'd get attached again... and what was with the purple hair anyway? It reminded her of her younger sister Cordelia, whose hair had gone through a whole rainbow of colors.
Emma thought that the girl was taking it easy at first, but she soon discovered another of the family traits on her: the brutal honesty the Frosts were so well known and despised for. She didn't expect the girl to be a member of any organization, let alone the Future Foundation, but what really surprised her was the fact that purple hair knew her name. One perfect eyebrow rose at the sound of it, but the rest of Emma's face remained set in a defiant expression, her arms still crossed over her chest in a somewhat defensive position. So, the girl knew who she was and thought she was very important for it. Let her keep acting all superior and see how far that takes the little brat, Emma thought. That was an attitude she hated in everyone but herself.
Despite what people usually thought, Emma had eventually learned to respect other people's mental privacy... whenever it suited her. The brat had been right about her not wanting to deal with a confrontation, mainly, because Emma had some important information in her mind that day she wanted to keep a secret for as long as possible and wouldn't risk someone else learning the reason she had just spent two hours in a hospital and then wandered into a mall of all places! Like a lost animal. All thoughts of recruiting or even contacting that girl again were long forgotten by then as she felt like a threat to Emma and she didn't like threats. Usually, she just eliminated them ruthlessly, but considering this was her own DNA of sorts... well, let's say that Magneto wasn't the only one who was probably getting softer with age. But that didn't mean she wanted her around.
As the young mutant talked about her powers and how the two of them were related, Emma stared at her as irritated as before, when she was browsing through low quality clothes. "So, you're not a telepath and yet you just 'know' what I'm thinking, huh?" Emma mocked her. "Believe it or not, I don't just get into everyone's head just because." Emma lied with a straight face. "You have some nerve to talk to me in such a manner. I'll give you that." She observed taking a good look at the young woman in front of her as if to analyze her for details that might have escaped her earlier scrutiny. "I think I'm starting to understand why people say I'm insufferable and full of myself." The blond ironized in a defiant tone. One of her hands went to her hips. "Actually, I was wondering if you had a name or just went by purple head." She hadn't intended to be aggressive on purpose, but the girl's attitude was getting on her nerves as it used to happen with both her sisters.
That was something her actual clones, who shared all of her DNA didn't inspire in her. They could be irritating, yes, but not to the point where she wanted to slap some sense of respect into them. Perhaps it was something that all children did to their parents? Emma was clueless, but the young mutant had said daughter and not clone, which was all the more likely to be true considering their mutations were similar but not quite the same.
For the first time in her life, Emma understood how violated Jean Grey had felt when learning about all the times Mr.Sinister had played God with her DNA. Before that moment, the White Queen had just thought that the redhead was just an annoying whiner of a woman. Agreeing with Jean Gray made her sick, she thought disgusted by the whole concept. "I'll be more than pleased to teach you some manners if you keep up with the bratty attitude." Emma warned her. It was better to be irritated than disgusted.

Bratty? Violet found it hard to believe her tone was being bratty, but then again she figured it depended on the perspective of the person as she only thought she was being clear of consequences and just making her mother well aware she could handle herself, maybe just as much as Emma herself could. Perhaps she just came off a little strongly in her tone from the start but seemed there was little she could do change that now. Though Emma's own mocking tone didn't exactly help the situation either as Violet seemed unimpressed by her mother so far, making her wonder whatever was causing her bad mood might be the problem. She really had caught Emma in a sour mood.
"I know because I can sense your curiosity just as I can sense you've been irritated about something since I even noticed you were in here. I may not be a telepath but I am an empath, a trait I gained from whoever Sinister's DNA he used for conceiving me in his god forsaken lab." Violet said, showing a bit of annoyance towards Emma's mocking tone, now kind of glad she hadn't been raised by this woman who was so well known for many things. " And perhaps you don't worm your way into everyone's mind but I'm just stating it's surprising you didn't before. Though suppose when someone's mind is elsewhere you can't really help that, and if that offended you in any way that was not my intention. Though suppose an apology would fall on deaf ears with you now wouldn't it." Violet said, trying to wrap her mind around why Sinister had been so interested in Emma Frost. No doubt it was for her powers, which even Violet was well aware, as most might known by now, she was one of the most powerful telepaths alive and Violet hardly suspected it was because she was another pretty face.
Though it did make the young woman wonder why Emma was in a place like this. Just from looking at her Emma seemed to prefer the finer things in life compared to her where a place like they were in now would be enough for Violet. And some things in the mall were pricy from time to time so there was definitely something going on for her to be around here. Nonetheless, the one thing Violet didn't do was violate someone else's personal life unless they shared that with her on their own time. And at this rate she didn't foresee a close relationship with Emma, especially when they were faring no better in two women meeting and disliking each other right away. Though it wasn't like Violet disliked her supposed to be mother she just didn't see how they really were related except in terms of their powers, attitude, and some looks.
"And yes I do have a name, you can call me Violet which in case your wondering the hair and eyes are naturally occurring. It's likely a side effect from my powers, if you really hold any interest in that of course." Violet told her, crossing her arms slightly. "And you kind of need this kind of nerve in a world we live in. I'm not going to let people break me down as Sinister aimed to do so being straightforward and blunt has been what got me this far among using my own intelligence. That means even you, which I hear your quite the blunt woman yourself so maybe I do have some Frost traits in me after all." Violet stated in a mild tone, beginning to doubt this conversation would get very far between them. In fact, it was bound to get downright hostile if they kept up their voices in this kind of state. And well, she certainly wasn't looking to learn anything from the likes of Emma, at least not if some things improved between them.

The way the young mutant... her daughter was able to shut her up with a somewhat valid argument also seemed like a Frost trait, one she would have been proud of if she weren't so worried about other personal issues and her previous experiences with her unplanned, unauthorized genetic relatives had ended up on a better note. "Fair enough." Emma conceded, still not happy about it, but at least a tad less irritated. So, she wasn't making stuff up, she was picking it up. It made a big difference. A part of her wondered if Scott was waiting for her at the mansion to tell her another bomb, because Emma felt she couldn't take any more shocking news that day. They complain if I poke around their heads, they complain if I don't. It's impossible to keep people from complaining, Emma ironized to herself.
Whoa. An apology. Emma didn't see that one coming. Obviously, the girl got that from her genetic father as well. "You won't know unless you try, don't you think?" Emma asked with a half-smile. Her eyes seemed to dare her as a test to see what else they had in common... or not. She wasn't treating the kid as a test subject, or at least, not in any way she wouldn't have tested her own students. In her defense, Emma didn't have a close relationship with anyone besides Scott and even him she kept secrets from and mistreated more often than not. That was who she was and the world would have to deal with it as she would have to deal with whatever results came from her tests. If she really had cancer, then she'd deal with that on her own, without burdening Scott or anyone else with her problems.
Emma seemed surprised to hear that the hair and eyes were just another mutation instead of a sign of rebellion. "Mr.Sinister really lacks in the creativity department, doesn't he?" Emma observed, internally relieved to know the hair was a mutation. That made Violet look better in her eyes. She didn't have horrible taste after all, just an unfortunate gene. Emma knew Violet could have done something about it if she wanted, but not fixing her looks wasn't as bad as having an appalling breach of taste in and of her own. "I would have gone with Christa." Emma said casually, as if it didn't really mean anything to her, like she always did when something was exactly the opposite. A part of her still felt great sorrow about her brother Christopher and she had always been sure about two things: one, she didn't want to have any children and two, if she did, she'd probably name at least one of them after her beloved older brother.
Maybe she was being a bit too rough on the girl, but for what Violet said herself, it appeared her life had been plenty harsh and that was probably why she was now so strong and confident, fully able to handle situations like the one they had just witnessed, the same way her demanding family and sordid teenage years had molded her own personality into who she was today.
The comment about the Frost traits made her laugh. It wasn't a bell like laugh, but the snobish kind that agreed with the rest of her personality. "Rest assure, darling. You have plenty." This time, Emma sounded more pleased with Violet than before. "Though that apologizing thing is all your dad's... whoever he might be..." Emma didn't seem comfortable with the idea of her DNA being mixed up with that of a total stranger. It was a lot worse than being cloned, she felt outraged... but she'd take care of Mr.Sinister later.
Right then, Emma felt the commotion of the security guards a few shops down and got serious again. "The security guards are on their way and will probably want to interrogate you..." 'if they find you' were the words Emma didn't say but could be easily deduced by the gesture she did with her hand, inviting Violet to follow her out of there. If there was going to be a drama, Emma wanted to make sure she didn't get involved.

Well that must have been a rare thing to get Emma Frost to go quiet in an argument. And Emma was definitely a stubborn, blunt woman all her own so it surprised Violet herself that the blond headed telepath backed off and called her own counter arguments fair. So, maybe she had some of Emma's personality in her too, there was no doubting that by now. Though that didn't mean that eventually Violet would meet her match with The White Queen since if she had a sharp tongue now there was certainly to be other times, if they stayed in contact or met again, to come that they'd likely have such back and forth conversations like this. Honestly, that might make for some interesting meetings in Violet's mind.
"Suppose I could, though usually arguments like that don't normally come with an 'I'm sorry' after it from me. Though in this case I probably could make an exception considering you are my mother after all, so I'm sorry for being brash in my tone before. It's a habit I can't seem to break when I get annoyed a bit." Violet told her, even slipping in the apology as she though it couldn't hurt to give it a shot. And was that half of a smile she just saw? Well, Violet felt she was making some progress in breaking down the barriers between her and Emma a bit, at least preventing them from being so damn hostile between one another. Even if they never became particularly close the young woman at least wanted to be on good terms with her genetic mother, especially since she considered the older woman to be the only real family she had at the moment. Whether or not she could ever accept the clone daughters known as the Stephen Cuckoos was another story and something she'd have to have hanging in the air for now.
"Lacks in creativity yes but the name just kinda stuck, so I've just adopted it as my real name since I was young. Honestly, I even picked my own middle name because there seemed little else I could do something of my own free will at the time, so my full name is Violet Monica Frost." She told her, though she had to admit the name Christa had a nice ring to it too. And it had to have some meaning to Emma for her to suggest it. Unfortunately, Violet couldn't tell or not, even with her empathy she couldn't see anything that Emma was showing much emotion except for being casual and a little less irritated. Yet, as much as she was curious about the name suggestion Violet said nothing of the matter nor asked about it. "It sounds like a nice name though Emma." Violet's voice was honest and really couldn't begin to understand that the name came from her unknown uncle Christopher and Emma's older brother.
A faint smile came to Violet's face though as Emma assured her she definitely had plenty of Frost in her and a little bit of whoever her father was. It was one thing she was left in the dark about since there had been so little information about her genetic father, she only knew he had been dead at the time and Sinister used his DNA for the experiment that resulted in her. Though she barely knew much about the Frost family as a whole and knew only a little about Emma as well, maybe only of what Sinister knew as a whole.
But upon hearing the commotion not far down the store the young woman gave a quick nod, "I have no doubts they'll want answers." She agreed before uncrossing her arms and following after Emma without a glance back, despite being aware some had been giving them weird, hostile, or uncertain looks the whole time they had talked. Right now Violet wasn't worried about it, she was more concerned of getting away from the scene of the crime rather then having to go through a pain in the neck interview of what went down in the dress store.

It was true that Emma Frost liked to have the last word in an argument, but she was also aware of the fact that it was her fault Violet had been able to pick up what she was leaking. Had she been focusing to hide her true emotions as she usually did, to prevent any other telepaths or empaths from picking up her mood and feelings, her genetic daughter would have never read her. It was a good way to remind herself to never let her guard down, not even for a second, not even in a place where Jean Grey wasn't going to pick up the fact that her world might be about to crumble down soon, depending on what the test results showed. Besides, she had to give the girl some credit. Other people would have been so terrified of her they wouldn't have even tried to pick anything up from the White Queen. Yes. There was definitely enough frost in that snarky young mutant.
She even knew how to pick her fights, Emma thought. All the better for her. She wouldn't have wanted to fight her own daughter if there was a way to help it. Not that the Frost bloodline was known by its sentimentalism or sense of family, but the blond telepath was known for being self-centered after all and very proud of her accomplishments. If a lost piece of her genetic material was doing well, then it was because she was a great woman to begin with and that pleased the White Queen a great deal... most days. However, now that she was in someone else's company, Emma was keeping her emotions extremely close.
Emma made a face at Violet's second name of choice. Maybe the girl's temper was quite frosty, but her sense of taste was definitely flawed. She bought clothes at a mall and thought those were decent names. Emma wasn't extremely happy about the ones her parents had chosen for her, but at least, her middle name had grace, she thought. Pun intended. "It's better than Violet." She said with a half smile, testing the girl to see how she reacted. "And since neither is your real name you don't have to keep it. Tsk, with today's technology applied to ID forgery, you could even change your real name if you wanted." The older woman complained, mostly, because they've had a couple of troubles with that particular issue in Frost Enterprises lately.
The psychic hadn't thought three steps ahead of herself that time. Just had wanted to get out of the store before the security guards showed up and now wondered where to go. Home was the first thing that popped into her head, but she wanted a few more minutes with the girl, considering it was probably the last time they'd be seeing each other outside a battlefield. Still, the coffee shops at the mall were too vulgar a place for a woman like herself, so she just walked for a while, before it became too obvious that the disgust she felt for a mall full of people was too great to deal with. "How can you even think in a place this crowded?" She asked rhetorically.

Once they had slowed to just walking Violet relaxed much more now that she wasn't really worried for security coming after her. Even if it was just to ask questions she usually dealt with such things at work often, mostly in her observations and analysis when it came to working in the labs and having to consult with other scientists from time to time. Not to mention she had had a few times in her past when security would question her about how she even helped civilians sometimes when it might not be possible. Usually she just went with the excuse as a teen that it had been dumb luck but now that she was a bit older and going to college she really couldn't get away with that anymore.
Seeing Emma's distaste though at her names Violet looked at her mother, giving the slight smile at her comment about Christa being better than Violet, "Well if the name had popped up first I would have considered it, so you're not wrong." She said with slight amusement at the agreement but there was some part of her that knew Emma was right about nearly her entire name as a whole. "I chose Frost because it seemed fitting Emma, you are my genetic mother and the only family I thought I've only ever had considering blood relation. If I had known my father's last name then I might have taken it instead but I know next to nothing of that origin, which if I could I'd check it myself but there's no guaranteeing someone's DNA already being on record." Violet told her, the moment a little bittersweet as it was a little fun but at the same time a little frustrating as she did want to know more about her families, from both sides. Though she had no intentions of pestering Emma about the Frost family nor did she really have much room in her mind to worry about her father's side.
"Being geneticist and gemologist on top of helping the Future Foundation and school I really never looked too much into family trees." Violet told her with a shrug before they ended up coming to a stop, at first making the younger woman wonder what was wrong. But that was when Emma's rhetoric question made her chuckle slightly, knowing she probably was irritated but Violet couldn't help it. She did know her genetic mother preferred the pricer side of life. Violet on the other hand was at home in a place like this and it gave her some reprieve from the slight quietness of work and studying all day, so she had learned to never mind such crowds.
"Oh come on Emma, this is hardly anything I'm sure compared to the Jean Grey School. I find this a welcoming change compared to most of the quietness I deal with on a near daily basis, and not to mention I'm not exactly rich so going to the mall or grocery store is really the only places I can show without everything being...expensive." Violet said as she began walking again wondering if Emma would take the slight tease or only get annoyed again. But quite frankly if she did get annoyed Violet didn't care, she spoke her mind on things and found a little humor never hurt. Surely even Emma could agree with that.

Emma didn't relax. That place was tacky and full of common people. Not one of the exclusive boutiques she used to buy at and the atmosphere made her... not uneasy but at least cranky. Still, she walked down the corridors with Violet, without even thinking about where she was going, as she had not a fixed destination in mind. She hadn't been to a shopping mall in years. Literally.
A slight frown appeared on Emma's face for a moment when she heard Violet justify her choosing her last name. It had been a misunderstanding, as she had meant that neither Violet nor Christa had been her real names. After all the things her blood relatives had put her through, Emma didn't care if someone was masochistic enough to want to be a Frost. She was proud of it, make no mistakes, but at the same time it came at a high price, as Violet would eventually learn, most probably. Still, the White Queen thought it was not worth clarifying. "Being a Frost comes with a price, darling. You seem to have enough Frost in you to handle it, but I'd still make sure I was ready to pay the price before making any final decisions on that regard if I were you." It was a true enough statement. If her sister Cordelia found out about her, who knew what would happen to the girl... not that Emma cared, but she hadn't seen her younger sister in years and if she had turned out as bad as her older sister was, then it could mean trouble involving extortion, money embezzlement and possibly making Violet the escape goat putting her behind bars for life while yet another Frost family member got rich in the process.
"Well, believe me, you don't want to meet the family." Emma said bitterly, contempt written in all her face. Over two decades later, she still resented her father. A part of her still had daddy issues. She still wished all her effort had been enough for him, but the man had such high expectations nothing Emma ever did had been quite enough and it was unfair and that pissed her off. "You'd never be able to live up to the Frost expectations." An irritated half smile indicated she knew all about that, first hand and Violet's taste in clothes was the least she had to worry about if someone else from their family ever got to know who she really was related to. The very way the girl had come into existence would have been enough to mark her as a disgrace so nothing she ever did to compensate would actually matter. Maybe Emma was having a emotional day after going to the hospital for such an important and stressing procedure and that's why she was thinking about all that old crap she had forced herself to forget.
"As much as it flatters me that people think we have two thousand students under our roof, we don't and the proof is I still live there." She replied with an ironic half smile. The comment on her not having loads of money kind of pissed Emma. Actually, it disappointed her but she looked irritated. The White Queen didn't care for people who just felt sorry for themselves without working towards solving whatever problem they were nagging and wining about. "Want some motherly advice?" She asked in that dry, superior tone that was her normal way of speaking most of the time. "Don't work to get rich. That's just a myth we tell poor people so they keep working for us." There was a hint of a playful smile on Emma's lips for a second and then it was gone, back to seriousness. "Think of a good business system and have other people's time and money work for you." Emma explained matter-of-factly, as if she were talking to her ethics class. By that, she meant that Violet had to come up with a great business idea, register it, present it to investors and have them risk their money so other people could work on the project and she could charge them all a handsome fee for introducing the idea to them in the first place. To her, it was one of the best pieces of advice she could have given someone. After all, her father had taught her and her siblings those lessons when they were still very young and they had saved her from being a poor nobody so it was an important lesson if you were to be a Frost.

"Emma I'm quite use to taking risks, it's all I ever done since I was barely able to crawl on my hands and knees as a baby. The biggest risk I've taken so far has been getting publicity since that's what the Future Foundation gets, a lot and most likely have seen the news reports." Violet said as she came to a stop near the exit to the mall, looking Emma right in the eyes. She was by now use to the risks she took, ones that could lead Sinister right to her or one of his tracking teams, to making suggestions at work, to being a heroine altogether. Like her Emma was always taking risks herself from what she heard, mostly from the fact she was part of the X-men most likely so Violet could only expect being a Frost only added to her list of risks. "If the family is really that bad then I'll take that risk too. Besides taking risks adds a little spice to life in my book. Call it being rebellious I suppose is the best definition." She said with a shrug.
Though a chuckle actually left the younger woman at the word of "Expectations" and ones Emma seemed to have been plagued with her entire life. "And just who's expectations should I be living up to exactly?" Violet said as she turned to face Emma, her look slightly amused and serious at the same time as the phrase just seemed to be a little funny to her. "With all do respect Emma, the only expectations I live up to are my own, no one else's. And you may be my mother but I'm hardly expecting you to really be worrying about me much since there are other things going on in your life rather than worrying about your college bound unknown daughter. I've made my own expectations no matter who it is, even the likes of the lunatic Sinister, because you have to admit trying to live up to someone else's demands can't always go as planned or end well." Violet stated. Whether or not she sounded harsh or rude Violet at this point cared little since she wanted Emma to see she could take whatever life might throw at her and that she didn't take anything from anyone, even Emma if it came down to it. The young telekinetic user was her own independent person and she had done pretty damn well it seemed.
Emma's advice might have been good but in this case Violet wondered if she would ever need it, never being the type to have to rely on people to do things for her or make them do so. "I don't work to get rich, I work to just make my own living and have my own life. Seventeen years being under someone else's thumb and five years later I've worked to carve a comfortable life out here in New York, that's the only thing I can ever ask to have." She told her mother, her tone slightly angered and bitter as she recalled those years of torment when she was with Sinister and really had no say in what she could and could not do. She could careless if she ever were to be rich as the rest of the Frost family, she'd just be the black sheep if that's what it took. "I prefer to gain things on my own Emma, not have people work for me and give away money for something like squabbling dogs. I see enough of that at my work place for valuable gemstones. Though don't get me wrong, it's great advice I probably could sometimes utilize later." She said, her tone a little kinder at the end, to show she at least wasn't going to ignore the advice entirely.
Glancing to a clock nearby though Violet saw it was getting late and she did have some studying she had to get done on top of looking back through her notes for both her jobs. "It was nice to finally meet you Emma, but I have to get going. Unfortunately I still have some things to do today, least before it ends. Maybe we'll cross paths again soon." She said as she turned to begin leaving.
