The city was dark-- the moon was high in the sky, but the lights of New York hid the stars from sight. The young blonde girl hid from judging stares-- from creeps that edged around in the night. She'd met one before, and she dare not meet one again. Cynthia laid her back against the old wall of the building she had taken as "housing" for the night. It was old-- abandoned. Maybe a warehouse of some sort, once? There was old machinery in here, but not a soul in sight. Silently, she wondered if this place even met safety standards anymore. She blinked her bright pink eyes slowly and looked down to Gerald-- her teddy bear. ...Her only friend. Slowly, the girl outstretched her palm and gently rested the tips of her fingers on the bear's forehead. You love me at least, right, Gerald? The bear's black button eyes flashed pink for just a moment, before the thing began to wriggle. It wobbled at first before wobbling up to its plush feet. Its smiling face peered up at Cynthia-- the only warm face she felt she'd known in her entire life, and she smiled back at it. I love you too, Gerald. Gingerly, Cynthia picked the bear up. Gerald willingly went, and made a giggling gesture with his chubby plush arms as Cynthia placed a gentle kiss on his nose. At least someone could look at her without those judging eyes. Someone understood her... Even if he was only here for a few moments. The girl outstretched her legs and set Gerald in her lap, who proceeded to crawl off and skip rather gleefully away. Gerald? Where are you going? Be careful in here! Cynthia pushed herself to her feet and scampered after the plush, who was making a go at climbing up a rather large crate. Gerald, you're going to snag your material! Cynthia opened her mouth in a silent laugh as she picked the bear up and set him atop the crate. Gerald spun around on one plush leg when she released him, and toppled a few steps backwards before tottering back towards her. Cynthia crossed her arms atop the crate and rested her cheek against one forearm as she watched Gerald perform his little dance. What a silly bear... But he always tried to cheer her up when they played... He would never know how much she appreciated his attempts. Cynthia's pink eyes flashed suddenly, and her eyelids drooped as a wave of exaughstion passed over her. Gerald suddenly dropped to his side on the crate-- motionless and inanimate once again. Oh... The blonde girl rubbed her head with one hand and reached out, snagging Gerald by the leg and dragging him back to her. She gingerly picked him up and brushed the woodshavings off of his back and legs, then placed a kiss on his cold, plastic nose. Thanks for trying, Gerald. she sighed soundlessly and turned around, sliding her back down the crate. The girl hugged Gerald close to her chest and buried her face in the top of his head as she bent her knees and pulled her legs in a bit. It's going to be another long night by ourselves, Gerald. But it's okay. We'll be fine! Just like we always are. This is a nice, safe place for the night... No one will bother us here. She almost smiled to herself as she closed her eyes and snuggled against Gerald-- waiting for sleep to come.

Jamini had gotten the shorter end of the stick that night. More work had come in and that caused her to stay at work way later then normal. After she got done with paper and computer work she then put everything away and started to leave, once outside Jamini found her car got in closed the door and started to up. She then started to drive the now not so busy streets of new york. As she did though she felt the voice of a child. It was weak but it sounded like a girl talking to someone. Jamini then shook her head trying not to eavesdrop on someone. But then she started thinking why would a girl be out at night like this? So then Jamini decided to go check it out. After a little while she came closer to where she thought the girl might be, but sadly the girl stopped talking.. Jamini then stopped her car getting out and locking it. She then started to look around on foot, luckily it was clear night and the moon was full so she did not really need a flash light. Though the trail for the girl had gone. Not that Jamini was sure she could do anything she just wanted to make sure she was ok. Jamini then started to look in the abandoned buildings one by one through the windows. Still she was able to spot something. Jamini then went inside and as her eyes adjusted she saw a form of a girl sleeping on the floor. Jamini then stopped where she was not wanting to scare the girl. "Excuse me, are you alright?" Jamini asked as softly as she could.

Cynthia was on the verge of sleep when something startled her. Was there...A presence in the room with her? It almost felt like she was being watched...- Excuse me, are you alright?
Her pink eyes flashed open and the girl snapped around to look up at the source of the voice. Someone-- not that she could really see well-- was standing over her. Looking down at her. She inhaled sharply and rolled quickly onto her feet; then proceeded to bolt around the crate she had been sleeping against.
No, no, no. Why is someone here? I thought this place was abandoned! Oh, Gerald what are we going to do? she whined inwardly as she clutched the bear close to her and slowly began to edge away from Jamini's direction. She didn't know-- was she here to drag her out? Maybe she was trespassing? Maybe she was just a concerned pedestrian? No, what would a pedestrian be doing in an old abandoned warehouse? Anyone had to admit that was a bit shady! Obviously she was here for a reason...! What if she was from Social Services?
Cynthia quivered at the thought, but remained soundless as she tried to sink into the shadows. Go away, go away, go awayyy...

Jamini took a few step back when she scared the poor girl. Well that was not something she meant to do.. She wanted to say something to calm the girl but had no idea what to say, but then she heard it. A soft voice in her mind, the same one she heard before. There was something different about this girl... Was she a mutant? Well then there was one thing she could do that would hopefully calm the girl. " I'm sorry I did not mean to scare you. I heard your thoughts and just wanted to make sure you where ok.. I will leave if that's what you really want... But I don't like the idea of a young girl being out here alone.."Jamini said projecting her thoughts as she slowly backed away.

Cynthia stopped, shivering in the shadows as she did her very best to avoid this stranger. She didn't want to go back to Social Services, if that was the case... No one would want her. Not only was she unable to speak, she was a mutant! It was just impossible. The blonde girl squinted her eyes shut and burrowed her face into Gerald's head when she heard a voice.
Well, sort of. It was more-or-less a voice without sound. Was this telepathy? As a user of it herself, she... Thought perhaps it may be. She had never had it used on her before, but she had used it a few times on others... But after the last time, she never wanted to again. ...You can hear my thoughts? How...? she countered the voice in her mind-- opening her eyes slightly to stare at the floor. ...I'm not alone, I have Gerald. And we'll be fine together, like we always are. she answered the voice in her thoughts as she burrowed her face back into Gerald.

Jamini stopped moving back and looked ever to where the girl was hiding, she could feel how scared she was and without even trying to could her some random thoughts of hers, though when the girl used telepathy she could hear her as clear as day. " I'm a mutant, one of my powers is telepathy.. I see Gerald must be your best friend... My name is Jamini, whats yours?" Jamini said projecting her thoughts softly. She really felt for the girl and wanted to help. But if she did not want any then their was nothing she could do.. And she did not want to force the girl to do anything she did not want to do. All she could do was to try and show the girl she also wanted to be friends.

Cynthia swallowed as she listened to the voice in her head. So it was telepathy... At least she knew what it felt like now. The girl's eyelids drooped a bit, but her gaze remained fixed on the opening between the crate she was hiding behind and the shadows, where she could see Jamini's figure.
A mutant? she echoed the thoughts. She wasn't alone? There were others like her...? She knew that there were, but... She'd never met one before. Maybe... Maybe they'd understand, then...? Cynthia squinted her eyes shut as she reached out to the stranger through telepathy. He is my best and only friend. she replied, tightening her grip a little bit on Gerald. ... My name is Cynthia. I... uhm... I've never... Met another mutant before...
The girl looked up from burrowing her face into Gerald's head, and let her gaze flicker towards the opening again, pink eyes alight with vague hope. The fact of the matter was that this person was... Like her, right? Maybe she wasn't bad... Maybe she wouldn't think that she was bad, either?
Cynthia struggled to hold onto that hope as the sense of hopelessness tried to overtake her. What if mutants didn't even accept their own kind?

Jamini smiled when the girl seemed to less scared then she was before. Jamini then sat down on the cold floor, trying to make herself less intimidating to the young girl. Though she did find it sad she had only one friend. She could not see this Gerald but gussed he was toy of some sort. When Cynthia said her name Jamini smiled and nodded, though blinked when Cynthia said she was the very first mutant she has ever met. A while back she was in the same boat as the girl. She felt alone as well till she met Garrett and then Lance. " I see, I was in the same boat as you a while back.. That was untill I met my new friends Garrett and Lance. Your the third mutant I have met so far.. I know it may be a bit much to ask.. But could you come on out? I wont hurt you.. In fact I would like to be your friend." Jamini said projecting her thoughts.

Cynthia looked out towards the opening-- leaning her cheek against Gerald's head as she watched Jamini move. She tensed slightly at the movement, but gradually relaxed when the woman only went to sit down. Cynthia studied her from the shadows, listening quietly to the voice inside of her thoughts.
The third...? she echoed the thought with a blink. So there were even more...? Cynthia paused when Jamini requested that she come out. Part of her ached to comply, to go meet this other mutant, but the other told her to stay back. The other part told her she was lying.
She didn't seem like a bad person though. Or... A bad mutant. Cynthia burrowed her face into Gerald for a moment as she went over the possibilities of the things that could possibly go wrong. Gerald, what do you think? she whined inwardly to the bear. She lifted her head to look at him. He just smiled at her like he always did, his big button black eyes looking up at her and reflecting bits of moonlight.
She studied his face for a moment, as if he might give her an answer, before slowly drawing herself off the ground. She hugged Gerald close to her as she quietly and cautiously edged out of the shadows and up to the opening behind the crate that she had darted behind. The girl rested one hand against the side of the crate as she nervously peered around it, easily spotting Jamini's dark figure amongst the moonlit floor. She shook a little, but refused to come out anymore. Why? she threw back Jamini's former offer in a question.
Why would anyone possibly want to be her friend? She couldn't even carry on a conversation-- which was what friendship seemed to be most centered around.

Jamini waited to see if Cynthia would come out, also doing her best not to read the young girl's thoughts. When Cynthia came out just a little Jamini looked at her, ah so that's Gerald her friend. A cute little teddy bear, moving her eyes from the bear she then looked at Cynthia, she looked really young, to young to be out on the streets alone.. Now Jamini wanted to help her more then ever. But first she had to gain Cynthia's trust. When Cynthia spoke back asking why Jamini blinked but then smiled, " You seem like you could use one more friend." Jamini said projecting her thoughts. Hmmmm what else could she do or say to gain Cynthia's trust? Only time would tell Jamini guessed.

Cynthia blinked as Jamini mentioned that she looked like she could use one more friend. The girl slowly turned her gaze downwards and looked to Gerald. She gingerly began to move one of Gerald's arms-- just fumbling with it as she let those words sink into her mind. ...It would be nice... she mumbled telepathically. ...to have a friend who would talk to me... Cynthia's eyelids drooped and her eyes lit up momentarily as she messed with Gerald's arm. The bear's button eyes flashed pink for a moment before he began to squirm in her arms. She gingerly set him down, and retracted her hands, folding them together against her lap. Gerald hopped around her and hid behind her legs, peering out from behind to look at Jamini. Cynthia peered down at the ground for another moment before lifting her gaze back to Jamini. ... Would you really be my friend?

Jamini waited as it seemed Cynthia thought more about her offer, she was not going to try to rush the girl by no means. When she spoke up again Jamini smiled when she said she wanted a friend to talk to. But she blinked in shock when Gerald seemed to come to life. Though Jamini showed no more rection then that. When Cynthia asked again if she would really want to be friends Jamini smiled and nodded, "Yes, I would love to be your friend. I know what is like to be alone. Not even my parents undertood what I am.. And a they are gone now so I was even more alone till I met Garret, Lance and now you and Gerald. You two should not be alone, I would like to be your family that is if you want me to be." Jamini said projecting her thoughts.

Cynthia began to rock slightly on her heels as she waited for a response from Jamini. The girl stared down at the dirty tips of her pink shoes, then slowly glanced up when she heard Jamini start to speak telepathically again. The lightest of a smile creased her lips when Jamini insisted on being her friend-- but disappeared a moment later at the mention of parents. I'm sorry about your parents. My mom is in heaven too. she mumbled through telepathy as she began to fumble with her fingers. She peeked up at Jamini as she offered to be her family, then down to Gerald. Gerald, what do you think? she asked the bear. Gerald tottered out from behind her legs and looked up at her with his warm, smiling face. As always. Cynthia leaned down and picked him up before looking up timidly at Jamini. She edged forwards slowly, out from behind the crate just a few steps before pausing again. Her gaze, though becoming a bit conflicted, focused on Jamini. The last time she'd been in a family, she... She hadn't been happy. Not in the slightest. Dad had been her family then. ...You won't hurt me, will you? Or take me to Social Services? Please don't... Cynthia held Gerald close, who in turn hugged her arm with his plus appendages. Jamini's exprassion became said when Cynthia said her mother was dead, but said nothing. Though she did wonder about her Father was he still alive? but seeing as Cynthia was out here alone he must have been a jerk... And that was cunformed when Cynthia asked if she would not hurt her. Tears then started to form as Jamini's heart went out more for the poor child. When she asked about Social Services Jamini shook her head and slowly stood up. "No of course not.. I would never think about hurting you or sending you to Social Services... Cynthia.. I know this may be sudden... But would you like to come live with me? It would be much safer then living on the streets.. And... If you fear Social Services.. I could... adopt you if you want." Jamini said out loud, though she wondered if she had said that a little to soon, "If your unsure go ahead and read my mind. I have nothing to hide from you." Jamini said as she opened her mind to the young girl could see she had nothing to fear.

Cynthia drew back a bit when Jamini began to speak-- it was a sudden change to the quiet voice she'd been hearing in her head. Although Cynthia wanted to flinch away, she forced her feet to stay on the ground as she listened to Jamini speak to her. She fumbled with Gerald's arms, who allowed her to do so with no resistance. The girl peered up at her again, taking a moment to try and search her mind. She seemed like a nice lady, and... She didn't seem to be lying. Cynthia blinked and glanced down when Gerald began to poke her in the collar bone with his plush nub. What is it, Gerald? she asked the bear, who stared back at her in turn, smiling. She knew Gerald wanted her to be happy whenever she animated him... It's why he went to such extent, doing silly things just to make her smile. Did he think a family would make her happy? She'd always seen families on the streets of New York, holding hands with their little toddler and swinging them about. She'd had those days once, when mom was alive and dad hadn't loathed her. She missed it. And although she was older now, maybe... Maybe she could still have something like that, now? Cynthia peered up at Jamini as Gerald hugged her arm again. I think you should know that I'm mute... If you're okay with that, I... I'd-- we. We'd really like to have a family. she stated in quiet, telepathic voice as she looked down at Gerald in her arms.
