Between classes. Emma was using the break to make some copies of personal documents at the school's xerox. It had been some years now since she had taken back to administrate some of her family business, mainly because it made her feel good. This were relatively peaceful times, so she could bask in the luxury of running her own business and feel in charge. Not that she needed the extra money, but it was nice to seat in front of that board of stupid men and give them a lesson or two about how to run a business. Besides, the would could use some of the technological advances Frost Enterprises was on the brink of making. But in order for that to happen, the company had to run smoothly and, in the immediate short-term, that meant there were endless forms she needed to copy and send to a dozen people who were too idiotic to do their own job. Having to do it for them did bother Emma, but at this point, she was used to it.
The room was half empty and the students there were mostly using the other installations the school had to offer. She just passed the pages and pressed the buttons with boring monotony, her mind already occupied on solving some other non related problem while that mechanical task went on. It had been lucky that her need to use the xerox didn't coincide with the exams period, where all the students lined up to copy each other's notes.

Sierra let out a soft yawn as she came towards the fourth floor study hall, carrying her pack over her right shoulder as she did. It seemed the halls today weren't exactly busy or most students were outside or in classes, depending on the days it seemed to vary around this mansion. A place she still wasn't use to despite Xavier's kindness to allow her to stay there. Though, she likely wouldn't have taken that offer if her own older brother wasn't there himself as a student. More than likely she would have still been searching for Shawn and their parents but from what she knew from Shawn they were still in Miami which made things a bit easier and Sierra had called them for the first time in three years.
Now as she opened the door Sierra had somewhat adapted back into normal society and a normal routine of classes and catching up for practically skipping middle school level classes and was currently doing high school level. It generally had the same concepts and it still allowed her to start from a normal freshmen would. Though now that Sierra was a student there her clothes were all now casual unless she decided to sneak out on her own from time to time or was training and there was really nothing that stood out for the teen. Well except for her obsidian glass body and purple hair, eyes, and lips. She usually was turning heads once in a while but some had gotten use to her full on mutation to which she really had no way of changing back to a normal appearance like some around the school.
Peering around the room Sierra saw only a few students there and one of the staff, Emma Frost if she remembered correctly. Though upon her looking she saw an empty area where she could do her work in peace and walked on past some of the groups of students that were working together before she sat down at a table and pulled out her books and binders and soon began starting on English class. For the most part she seemed to be worrying about her own business rather than paying attention to others who might have helped her out.

Half an hour later, Emma was done copying the insane amount of paperwork her position as her company's C.E.O. required and searched for an empty table to make sense of the several piles of papers in her hands. She chose one near one of the students without really thinking about it, her mind too worried about not making any mistakes with the copies.
Her hands moved swiftly as she started to put a paper in each pile of copies on top of every single one of the twenty folders she had spread over the table. It was a pain, but taking all those papers to her office could result in them getting mixed up and that would make her waste unnecessary time untangling the information. A few minutes later she was done with that part of the job. Her perfectly manicured hands created a small pile with all the folders, now neatly labeled with the name of the people they'd go to and containing the right info in the order it was needed.
Then she was ready to leave when her eyes caught an unfamiliar face. She might have seen the girl at the mansion before, but she couldn't remember her from her classes. "You're not in my ethics class." She observed flatly, scrutinizing the girl with her blue eyes, trying to remember if a picture of this girl had been attached to the pile of files under the "new students" label that she had been reading earlier that month.

Sierra's gaze briefly left her essay she was working on, well more of the rough draft for it than really anything of the true essay. It was right now just to put those ideas she had gotten for a research topic onto a paper or two and organized as it was needed in the correct format. Her eyes watched the woman famously known as the White Queen working on separating papers to certain folders to which the young teen realized was just on a table close to her own. She vaguely remembered seeing the folders but really hadn't paid much attention to them herself so she didn't say anything when Emma passed her just moment before and began separating those papers.
Turning back to her paper Sierra's purple eyes began to shift from her outline and back to her rough draft, carefully writing down the second paragraph already with finishing the introduction shortly after she came in there. Her bag was also just down by her feet, zipped open and showing several other textbooks and binders she would have to organize and work on tonight and tomorrow for her core classes she was taking. And her attention was more drawn to there then Emma for a while until she heard the woman speak which made Sierra glance up, realizing the blonde woman was actually talking to her which made her wonder why'd she'd really care for a student who's not in her ethics class. Although, when Sierra had been signing up she decided to stick with core classes for now and really wanted to avoid the subject of Ethics for a while.
"No I'm not,"Sierra replied in her own flat tone before setting down her pencil to give more attention towards Emma, eyeing her slightly. "To be honest, learning about empirically ethical reasoning, choices, and subjects is something I quite want to avoid. I've heard more than enough talk of people speaking of their ethics the past three years I really don't want to have to hear it from someone else." Sierra said dryly, not very fond of ethics or even science. Scientific Engineering to be more exact. "No offense to you of course Ms.Frost. Anyway, my name is Sierra Anderson, sister of Shawn Anderson which you might know possibly."

Emma's blue eyes took only a moment to take in the very uncommon and quite evident mutation the girl had. It was not the sort of gift you'd see at the mansion, that much was for sure and she wondered what else this girl could do, her mind already thinking of how she could fit in a team in the future, always weaving plots in her head.
One perfectly waxed eyebrow rose and her lips tightened to a line for a moment before she spoke. It bothered her that people didn't want to sign up for her class because she used to be one of the bad guys and that brought along a lot of prejudices, but not being recognized at all irritated her more than that. "You've heard the idealists talk about ethics which, I have to admit it sounds like the same old boring sermon no matter who's giving it, but I don't think you've ever had the pleasure of hearing a reformed villain's views on ethic." She said coolly, though there was a glimpse of something else in her eyes.
Emma nodded as she recognized the name. "Well, that's too bad Ms.Anderson, but it's your loss in the end." The blond said flatly, evening the folders by letting them fall perpendicularly to the table while supporting them from the edges with her hands to help them accommodate better.

Sierra actually couldn't help giving a half laugh, "Ms.Frost if you think I'm not taking your ethics class because of your reputation you are jumping to conclusions. I have other reasons for not joining Ethics, personally I didn't want to even take up science but it's a core class so didn't have a choice." Sierra told her, not really minding that of Emma's past deeds. In fact, the real reason she didn't take ethics and if she had a choice Science was the fact of hearing the scientists back in AIM and being used like a guinea pig which still was fresh in mind. After all, she had only just escaped that research facility that was also like a prison, which it kind was for the experiments that went on there.
"Really, if I had any choice I would skip science completely sooner than I would Ethics."Sierra muttered softly, not really caring if Emma heard that part or not. She hadn't told Shawn everything yet of what happened back in the labs of AIM but with what time they had he at least knew where she had been for three years but no one else did. And really she hated being a mutant right now altogether, glancing towards her obsidian glass body for a moment lifting her hand enough so she could focus upon the class as it soon began to rise up in long to small spikes, thinking of those painful times.
So, it really wasn't anything of Emma's fault for not wanting to be in Ethics. It was more of Sierra's uncertainty of hearing even more ethical reasons for actions to be justified by others. There were always other perspectives but right now Sierra had a hard time trusting others enough to listen to such other possible truths and ideals of those around her. Sighing softly Sierra let the class spikes almost melt away to become a smooth surface on her hand again, now frowning slightly.

"I don't." She assured the kid. Instead, she was sort of upset that her reputation wasn't the reason behind Ms. Anderson's decision. "Running away from your problems will never allow you to master yourself completely, Ms.Anderson." Emma added after probing the girl's head superficially. Her voice sounded irritated, as usual. It was so frustrating to see how lazy and undisciplined the younger generations had gotten with time. Coming from a family with very high standards, she thought self-discipline wasn't an option for anyone willing to survive and was one of the first things Emma tried to teach her students.
"And neglecting your studies won't help either, but it's your funeral after all." She had seen too many of her students die over the years, some because of her mistakes, some because of their own stupidity. If anything, Emma was glad she didn't have to feel responsible for someone who lacked two qualities she valued so much. That reasoning dispelled her irritation, but her face looked as hard and determined as ever.

Irritation flashed in Sierra's expression as she looked back at Emma, figuring the woman was likely digging into her thoughts for all she knew. Unfortunately, that was one thing Sierra couldn't stop which annoyed her to no end. "What you view as running away from my problems is something I see as not wanting to be around certain subjects for a time being Frost. In your mind it may seem that way but for now I'd rather worry more about other subjects than the views of Science and Ethics." Sierra said in annoyance, wondering if this woman truly viewed her as being lazy. That wasn't the case at all but the young teen doubted her and Emma would actually see eye to eye on that subject and she was almost tempted to leave it alone.
Any further argument was likely just to annoy them both. "Think what you want I suppose but I'm not a lazy person and neither have I ever slacked in my studies. In fact, I'm doing what I can to make up three years that I've missed to which as a teacher I'd think even you can find that as being more than laziness."She countered slightly, more as am emphasis that Emma might as well not other with trying to argue against this. "Tch, really if my brother wasn't here I likely wouldn't have thought twice about Xavier's offer to come to this school in the first place." She added, knowing it had taken a lot to accept it even with Shawn there. But it was frustrating to hear teachers state something that was the exact opposite in another's view and not taking that into consideration.
"But if it bothers you that much then maybe I'll take the initiative and look into any openings of your classes." Sierra finally said dismissively as she just turned back to her English homework.

"Yes, I imagine a teenage girl must have much more worse problems than school homework." Emma ironized holding Sierra's gaze. She had been a really troubled and rebel teenager as well, but at the same time, she had done her best, always pushing herself harder and harder forward to overcome anything that might become a weakness and she had no respect for people who didn't do the same. It was the easiest way to get one self killed and she felt so done with having her students die on her, it was the major reason why she hadn't gotten closer to any of them again. It had been too painful and she always chose to be happy.
"If you need help getting up to date, maybe you should sign up for some of the tutoring classes available." Emma suggested in a less hard voice as the girl finally showed a better attitude towards learning. It almost sounded like a real advice a calmer teacher would have given her. "That's what the teachers get paid for anyway, they might as well do their jobs." Emma said with a half smile.
Emma kept her thoughts about making a decision based on who was where to herself and pressed her lips together.
"It doesn't bore me, Ms.Anderson. However, I do worry about students. This world isn't a nice place and I'd like to think I've done all I could to prepare them to face what's out there so they can come back home alive." She told her honestly, a stern look on her chiseled features. After that, she too went back to her folders and paperwork.

Sierra seemed to pause for a moment at Emma's words, taking everything she had to not speak out against such a stereotypical notion. Honestly, it seemed all adults thought teenagers were the same and that too was kind of annoying for some who actually had the sense to know what they were doing and talking about. This was one thing Sierra wanted to counter and protest but figured this would only make Emma say she was just being childish and likely confirming she was no different from most students there. So this time the young girl bit her tongue and decided it was best to not say something for it.
"Like I said, I'll try to look into it when I get some break time with the work I have already." Sierra finally spoke, finishing down the second paragraph and working to her third one of her paper which she figured might become her longest paragraph when relooking at her outline. At the same time she was almost tempted to end their conversation which hadn't exactly been going well and the obsidian glass teen had noticed some were watching the exchange, obviously wondering if this would result in a confrontation between student and teacher. Not that Sierra wanted that to happen, she just wasn't exactly agreeing with Emma on many things she was saying and was actually quite irritated with some of it.
Glancing up then when Emma spoke once more, Sierra couldn't help eyeing the woman before looking back at her paper. "If you think I haven't learned that Ms.Frost than you obviously haven't looked that deep into my thoughts or haven't looked into my memories. I've seen a dark side of human nature already so don't go lecturing me on how the world isn't a nice place." Sierra said in a solemn tone as she laid down her pencil.
Her thoughts now were completely off her paper that needed to be done and briefly reliving just those weeks before she had escaped. "I was only twelve when I learned this lesson the hard way and I've learned it's hard to trust others when you don't know what they'll likely end up being friend or foe. Even someone like you should understand that much."

Emma nodded, her expression unreadable. She could have been thinking the kid was just saying that to get her to stop bothering her with sermons or that she believed her... or even that she didn't care either way. She might even have been thinking about a completely different thing altogether, bored of the useless discussion.
"One of the first things you learn as a telepath, Ms.Anderson, is to respect other people's thoughts." Emma said, not that she was particularly adept to that rule. It was more like a guideline to her and she tended to bend it as often as it suited her own interests, as she did with rules in general. But that was something only staff who had known her for long enough knew. "What kind of Ethics teacher would I be if I went around poking into my students' minds?" The question was rhetoric and she didn't sound friendly anymore, not since the girl had told her what to do. Emma hated people telling her what to do, especially someone who didn't have the status or leverage to do so, like a brat. "And I'd watch the way you talk to the school staff if I were you, Miss." Emma said clearly annoyed.
"So, you've managed to learn the basics after all. Good." That sounded like a real praise she'd give as a teacher. "Learning not to trust will take you a long way. Maybe there's still hope for you." That, too sounded very sincere considering all the acid comments that had been made by both of them during the conversation. "I'll be keeping an eye on you." Emma promised or maybe threatened, as there was no way to know if that was a good thing or not coming from her. If the kid could be broken out of her bad habits and already knew not to trust just anyone, then perhaps there was still a chance she'd make a good student, the kid Emma respected.
"Have you been trained in combat?" She asked out of curiosity, now that Sierra had sparked it.

Alright so maybe some of her words had been out of hand and Sierra this time was the one jumping to conclusions. She'd have to work on her social skills there was no doubt about that and she merely could shrug, "Okay maybe I overstepped that time, but guess I should warn you that might happen sometimes. My social skills aren't exactly the greatest as they once were." Sierra apologized, albeit grudgingly since she wasn't the type anymore to apologize. So it kind of was a difficult thing for her to do regardless if one was a student or staff and she really had a hard time adapting to the outside world again since her social skills hadn't exactly been the best once before. Of course, she was a bit more out going when she was younger but the last three years greatly changed that.
But Emma's praises of sorts made Sierra raise and eye brow towards the blonde haired telepath since that wasn't anything she was expecting. From what she heard praise from the likes of Emma Frost was rare and difficult to earn so Sierra didn't know if she should be honored or just shocked. "Well, if you don't learn the basics going to be hard getting anywhere in this world. Can't be a little kid forever being carefree and merry all the time." She commented softly, wondering if she should be taking that as a promise or a threat. It could really be either and Sierra noted to herself to be watchful from now on. Emma could turn out to be her greatest enemy or her greatest ally in the coming months or coming years. Although her next question actually made Sierra look at her with a little surprise, hearing curiosity in the woman's voice this time.
"A little bit. I'd say my skills are only minor hand to hand combat, unarmed and armed, though mostly with the use of the glass spikes I can create or other weapons from glass when it comes to armed combat." She answered as she shifted a bit to better face Emma. "Why do you ask?"

"See? That's a mistake." She said almost kindly, thought her features were still set in a resolute expression. "Not trusting people doesn't mean you can't be nice to them. An iron hand in a silk glove is as perfect as social skills can get if you want to make the most of them either in your personal life or in business." The comment seemed like a genuine advice she was giving Sierra as a teacher. Emma believed her students should know that kind of stuff even if it didn't seem too ethical. She wanted them to be ready for the world, to have the tools to fend for themselves. As hard as she might pretend to be, the death of so many of her students over the years had really struck her deeply.
Emma gave her a half-smile. "Yeah, if the rest of my class could just think like that, it would be great." She ironized, but seemed more open than before now that she had discovered a possible diamond in the rough... very rough, but still. Now if she were willing to cooperate for her own good and were properly trained... Emma stopped herself from making any more long term plans. She had gotten too much grief and disappointment from getting involved or even interested in her students. That was a mistake she wasn't making again. One weakness was more than enough and Scott had that base covered already.
The teacher listened to her with polite interest, but her thoughts were impossible to guess. It took Emma a few seconds to reply, as if trying to choose the right words. In fact, she wasn't sure she knew the answer yet, but a Frost would never admit to that. "Well, you already know the basics and since you don't seem all too keen on the academics, combat training is the logical next step." Now the woman sounded resolute, as if she had a clear plan of action on mind and it were only a matter of getting down to work and make it happen. "You'd do good in Mr. Howlett's class." It was the hardest of all the physical training courses and that's exactly why Emma recommended it.

"It'll take time for me to learn to trust people again Ms.Frost, which at the moment my brother is the only one I've had absolute trust in. He seems to trust the staff and others here so I'm trying to take up this offer Xavier gave me and hopefully in time improve." Sierra explained to her, realizing then that there was one thing that hadn't changed: following her brother's lead. Back when they were kids Sierra recalled many times she had watched her brother, learned from him, followed his lead, he had been the one to teach her many things next to her parents. It truly was a wake up call to know that maybe some habits hadn't died completely which was one thing that made Sierra relax somewhat without even realizing it.
Even Emma might have noticed this sudden change in her body language. "Well some take longer to learn than others but I'm sure some of them will learn that one day." She said, returning her attention fully to her possible teacher and had to admit maybe Frost wasn't as bad as she had expected. "Yes, I've heard Mr.Howlett's courses are physically, and mentally, demanding. I might look into the class since I kinda need a PE class to begin with and well this glass doesn't break that easily." She said, rubbing her chin in thought. But it was true. Sierra may be made of glass and even her insides were but she was a tough living sculpture, literally and her healing factor usually came in handy.
Finally looking at Emma thoughtfully the teen put in, "Guess you aren't that bad Ms.Frost...for a teacher." She said, a faint genuine smile coming to her purple colored lips for once. For the young teen it was rare for someone to get a smile from her unless she knew someone and or trusted that person, but this time she made an exception to Emma. Just maybe this place would be worth it.

Emma's hopes plummeted down again as she realized there had been a misunderstanding. "Oh, I wasn't advising you to trust people. Believe me." If the girl was already starting to let go of that weakness, going back to the place she was trying to get her students out of would be a waste of everyone's time. "I think you would bloom with the proper guidance and training, and I'm sure there are plenty of useful areas you can invest your time improving, Ms.Anderson. This school has a lot to offer." Emma truly believed that and had put a lot of effort in making sure the school could help form the next generation of mutants in as many areas as possible.
"For their own sake, I hope they do before it's too late. I've seen too many students die because they trusted too much or expected their adversary to play by the rules." That wasn't something they often taught at the Xavier mansion, but she had to make sure the students were aware of the real world. Living in a bubble wouldn't make them any good. "Danger brews even under peaceful times or should I say... especially during seemingly peaceful times." There was a half smile in her face but it had no humor in it and hes eyes were serious too.
She nodded at the rumor. "All the more reason to try the hardest course. You wanna make sure you can take anything life throws at you without breaking." Again, she had gone into teaching mode, which could mean her voice could range from angry to passionate to the serious undertone it had now. However, compared to her usual way of talking, she seemed almost encouraging. As a telepath, she had often pushed herself to train her body harder and harder to prevent the typical weakness of all the mutants who fought with their minds. At least until she discovered her second mutation.
A proud crooked smile bloomed in Emma's face. "You're not too bad yourself for a newly arrived student." The blond replied with the same hint of complicity Sierra had shown before. She reminded Emma of another student, years ago.
Then, Emma's body language changed as if she were about to leave. "I've got to go make some real money." She informed nodding towards the pile of folders with a face that made clear she considered paperwork boring and beneath her. "You know where to find me should you ever decide to polish the rough patches and become a diamond." Emma said with a faint challenging smile, making a bet with herself on whether or not the girl would be willing to be a survivor like her, or let the rest of Xavier's teachers lull her into a false sense of security that would most likely end up with Sierra killed in action.
